Marin Sheriff's Deputies Search for Marinwood Burglars

Two houses were burglarized on Friday.

Marin Sheriff's deputies are looking for suspects responsible for burglarizing two houses in Marinwood on Friday.

Between 10:30 a.m. and 5:25 pm. burglars forced the front door open and ransacked a home on the 300 block of Blackstone Drive. Jewelry and loose change was stolen.

The same day, burglars pried open the side door of a garage on the 2800 block of Heatherstone Drive between 8 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. Once inside, they took two large flat screen television sets, an X-Box video game system and loose change. They also cut the phone lines before leaving.

Deputies believe the burglaries are related because of the close proximity and time frame of the crimes. They are looking for two individuals who probably fled in a car.

Lieutenant Barry Heying estimates the stolen property for both burglaries to total over $5,000.

“In many cases, burglars enter homes that are unlocked,” he said. “But these were bold in that both houses were secure.”

Although residential burglaries in Marinwood are not unheard of, these are the first of the year, according to Heying. He said that many burglars would ring the doorbell of homes and be prepared with a story, like asking the residents to take a survey, in order to see if anyone is home. Newspapers on the front steps are also a hint if anyone is in the house.

He advises neighbors to be watchful of cars on their street and report any suspicious activity.
