Shooting Suspect To Be Charged Wednesday

Will appear in court Tuesday but arraignment will be delayed.

A San Rafael man is expected to be arraigned Wednesday on allegations he shot and wounded his roommate during an argument early Monday morning.

The suspect, Edward "Fitz" Outcalt was due in court Tuesday but Chief Deputy District Attorney Kathryn Mitchell said her office is awaiting police reports on the non-fatal shooting and will not file charges until Wednesday.

Outcalt was arrested after San Rafael Police found a 24-year-old man with a single gunshot wound to the stomach at his home at 45 Marquard Ave. after being alerted by a 911 call. The victim reportedly told police he was shot by his roommate, whom he identified as Outcalt.

Police said Outcalt apparently fled the scene on foot and was found within an hour hiding in bushes at West Street and Marquard Avenue in the city's west end. They said he was taken into custody without incident. A handgun believed to have been used during the shooting was also found, according to police.

The victim was taken to Marin General Hospital and underwent surgery for an abdominal wound.  His condition was stable Monday, said Margo Rohrbacher, San Rafael Police spokeswoman.

Outcalt was booked at Marin County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held on $150,000 bail.
