Man Accused of Sexually Assaulting Girlfriend for Seven Years

The San Rafael police arrested a man suspected of beating and raping his girlfriend over a period of seven years, according to authorities.

San Rafael police arrested a local man accused of raping and beating his girlfriend for seven years while they lived together, according to police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher.

The 54-year-old man, who listed his occupation as a janitor, was booked in Tuesday afternoon on a felony charge of rape by force and a misdemeanor charge of battery. His bail is $250,000.

In the evening of July 9, the suspect allegedly grabbed his girlfriend by the hair and hit her in the eye, before raping her. After the attack, he took her paycheck and left to cash it, Rohrbacher said.

The following day, the victim, with the help of a friend, reported the crime to the police. During the investigation, the victim told officers that the abuse had been going on for seven years, according to Rohrbacher.

The victim refused medical attention and the police arrested the suspect at their home on the 200 block of Union Street.
