Local Man Accused of Palo Alto Stabbing

A 26-year-old San Rafael resident was arrested Friday morning on suspicion of stabbing another man during a fight.

Police arrested a man who stabbed another man in the leg during a fight in a downtown Palo Alto 7-Eleven early Friday morning.

Around 1:30 a.m. Friday, police responded to a call of a fight involving an armed man at the 7-Eleven located at 401 Waverley St. About five minutes later, officers located the armed man, 26-year-old Cody Cowin of San Rafael, and arrested him.

The man who was stabbed in the confrontation was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries and released, police said.

Investigators learned that Cowin and the victim - a man in his 40s who did not know the suspect -- got into an argument while shopping at the store that quickly escalated into a physical fight.

Police said the suspect allegedly used a folding knife to stab the victim once in the shin.

Cowin was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail.
