Grass Fire above Civic Center Quickly Contained

Second wild land fire in two days

A small grass fire erupted on the hills above San Pablo Avenue at Tudor Court at about 3:55 p.m. Thursday. The one-acre blaze sent clouds of smoke billowing above  the Marin County Civic Center where the county fair is under way.

The two-alarm fire was contained within 30 minutes and no homes were threatened, said Steve Hancock, the city of San Rafael's emergency services manager. He said the cause is unknown.

It made for a busy week for San Rafael firefighters who put out a 15-acre wild land fire Wednesday off Margarita Drive in East San Rafael. Several homes were threatened in that blaze but none were harmed.
