Funeral for Bike Crash Victim Set for Friday

David Hauer, a 79-year-old San Rafael resident, was killed after he fell of his bike and into the path of car in Inverness Park last Friday.

A funeral mass has been scheduled for Friday for the San Rafael bicyclist who was killed in a crash with a vehicle in Inverness Park last Friday, according to an obituary in the Marin Independent Journal.

David Hauer, 79, was identified by the Marin County Sheriff’s Coroner Division a few hours after the crash, in which he apparently fell off his bike and into the path of the vehicle, according to a preliminary report by the California Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred in front of Perry's Deli at 12301 Sir Francis Drake Blvd. in Inverness Park, and Hauer was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

In the obituary, Hauer was remembered as a doting grandfather who was "extraordinarily active as a bicyclist, skier, runner, and handball player."

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, April 19 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of St. Isabella, One Trinity Way in Terra Linda. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Dave's memory to the Marin YMCA or Blood Centers of the Pacific, according to the obituary.
