Five Gang Members Arrested, a Bible Attack and Indecent Exposure

The San Rafael Police blotter for May 2-6 includes multiple burglaries, a stolen envelope of cash and cocaine dealers busted near a school.



May 6

Burglary: 710 C Street. Someone broke into an office and stole a Macbook pro and a high-end Panasonic digital camera. The suspects also broke into the office building adjacent to the reporting person’s office. 

May 5

Disorderly conduct: Fourth Street Tavern, 711 Fourth Street. A 21-year-old male was trying to start fights with multiple people at the Fourth Street Tavern. Upon contact, the suspect displayed multiple objective signs of alcohol intoxication. While he was being booked at the Marin County Jail he made an attempt to escape from jail by trying to run out an open door and force his way past multiple officers. He was booked on suspicion of attempted jail escape, violation of parole and disorderly conduct. 

Robbery: Bus stop, Lincoln Avenue and Mission Avenue. The victim was waiting for the bus and looking at an envelope he had that was filled with money. A black adult male in his 20’s approached the suspect and stole the envelope of cash out of his hands. 

May 4

DUI: Country Club Bowl, 88 Vivian Way. An officer contacted the suspect after a citizen reported he was passed out in his truck on Vivian Way. Upon contact, the officer could smell an odor of an alcoholic beverage. The subject, who is unlicensed in California, declined a field sobriety test. He previously had a California ID card and a prior conviction for DUI. The officer arrested him and booked him at Marin County Jail. 

Discharging a firearm: Eva Street and Woodland Avenue. Officers were in the area of Irwin Street and Woodland Avenue when they heard gunshots in the neighborhood. SRPD dispatch then received several calls regarding a shooting. While enroute to the call, Sgt. Leon observed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed on Rice Street approaching WB Francisco Blvd and then run the stop sign. Sgt. Leon and several other SRPD officers conducted a high-risk stop on the vehicle. Five suspects were detained. The suspects were known to the SRPD as Norteno gang members. A probation/probable cause search of the vehicle revealed a loaded stolen .357 revolver under the rear passenger seat. The revolved had five shell casings in the cylinder. All of the suspects were arrested and booked into MCJ on multiple charges including discharging a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle, carrying a loaded firearm and participating in a criminal street gang. 

May 3

Disorderly conduct: 2175 Fifth Avenue. A suspect was seen staggering as he walked on Fifth Avenue with his penis exposed because of his torn shorts. The suspect was found to be intoxicated to the point where he could not care for his personal safety and was in violation of his probation terms. He was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail. 

Evading police: 2000 block Fifth Avenue. During an argument roughly one month ago, the suspect hit a victim in the face with a bible and caused bruising. When the suspect was confronted today regarding the theft of three ceremonial sabers, he threatened the victim. The suspect had an outstanding warrant for his arrest and when the officer attempted to conduct traffic stop on the vehicle he was driving the failed to yield to the patrol cars red light and siren. He was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of multiple charges including inflicting injury on a spouse and evading a peace officer. 

May 2

Graffiti: Vallecito School, 50 Nova Albion Way. The officer was on duty and assigned to uniformed graffiti. The officer contacted the assistant who said the unknown suspect spray painted a wall with graffiti. The graffiti was in brown spray paint and consisted of the word “Debot.” 

Disorderly conduct: 901 Lincoln Avenue. The suspect was creating a disturbance downtown. He made threats of violence against the officers. He was determined to be too intoxicated to care for his own safety and the safety of others and was taken into custody. 

Inflicting injury on a spouse: Vista del Mar and Isla Vista Lane, San Rafael. The crime victim and suspect had been in an intimate dating relationship for two and a half years. They have lived together for two years and three months in their vehicles and a motor home. They have no children. Today they had a verbal argument over financial issues regarding the payment of insurance for their motor home. During the argument the suspect caused visible injury to the back of the victim’s head and injury to her right wrist. He also threw a tennis ball at  the victim’s head and threw a lit cigarette at her. He was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail. 

Selling drugs near a school: 211 Bahia Place. As a result of a search warrant, the police seized more than 88 grams of cocaine, 63 grams of methamphetamine and a stolen laptop. There were 142 individual bindles of cocaine and 114 individual bindles of methamphetamine. Four San Rafael men were arrested and booked in Marin County Jail on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance for sale, selling drugs near a school, possession of narcotics for the purpose of sale, receiving known stolen property and violation of probation. 

Stolen car: Terra Linda High School, 320 Nova Albion Way. An unknown suspect stolen the vehicle, which was seen on surveillance video leaving the area. The vehicle was entered in the stolen vehicle system.
