Firefighters Respond to Fire at Homeless Camp

Bay City News

Firefighters in San Rafael put out a vegetation fire behind buildings on Dubois Street Saturday in an area with multiple sites where homeless people camp.

The fire was reported along the SMART rail corridor behind buildings on the 400 block of Dubois Street just after 4:15 p.m., according to Fire Chief Christopher Gray.

Firefighters found multiple fires spreading through the vegetation and the remains of several camping sites sending up columns of smoke, Gray said. Firefighters were able to protect the nearby buildings and bring the fire under control quickly, Gray said.

There were no injuries, and the fire's cause remains under investigation, Gray said.
