Firefighters Douse Vegetation Fire near Kerner

The cause of the 1-acre fire is unknown at this time.

San Rafael fire crews are currently wrangling with a 1-acre vegetation fire in the marsh area near the end of Kerner Boulevard and just east of 1495 East Francisco Boulevard in San Rafael.

Larkspur Fire Chief Bob Sinnott said he expected that crews should be able to maintain the spread of the fire so that it grows to no more than 2 acres in size.  Full containment is expected within the next 20 minutes.

Crews responded to the fire at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. The first alarm fire is not threatening any structures. There was a report of one minor injury.

Smoke from the fire could be seen from as far south as Corte Madera and from San Rafael Hill.

Marin County fire crews are also assisting with fire control.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
