Firefighters Douse Montecito Plaza Fire

Applied Computer Technology in the Montecito Plaza Shopping Center is closed today due to a blaze that sparked early this morning.

San Rafael Firefighters doused a structure fire early Tuesday morning in , according to authorities.

At approximately 3:30 a.m. on June 26, early morning employees at Trader Joe’s smelled smoke from the neighboring business, computer repair and retail store , Fire Chief Chris Gray said.

Firefighters found a fire and that “the unit was fully charged with smoke,” Gray said.

Smoke spread to adjacent businesses and fire threatened to spread into the attic area. According to Gray, the computer store and the majority of the shopping center do not have automatic fire sprinklers.

The firefighters extinguished the blaze in 20 minutes and ventilated the store to prevent smoke damage.

No one was injured in the incident and there is not an estimate of the loss at this time, Gray said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Although Applied Computer Technology is closed, other businesses in shopping center are open and operating.
