Fire Engine Accident Sends Man to the Hospital

A fire engine collided with a car at the intersection of Lincoln and Third this morning.

A San Rafael Fire engine struck a car in an intersection Tuesday morning, sending a man to the hospital, according to authorities.

At approximately 8 a.m., Engine 54 was driving southbound on Lincoln Avenue when it collided with a white pickup truck traveling west on Third Street. The fire engine was out of service at the time, and its driver, a fire mechanic, was not injured in the accident.

The pickup's driver was transported to hospital, although the nature of his injuries is not known.

"He was speaking when he was being transported," said police spokewoman Margo Rohrbacher.

The accident is still under investigation, but witnesses are reporting the that collision was the fire mechanic's fault, Rorhbacher said.
