Fallen Tree Cuts Power in Bret Harte

A fallen oak tree snapped a power pole and cute electricity to approximately 10 homes in Bret Harte on Thursday.

A fallen oak tree at Bret Harte Road snapped a power pole and cut electricity to 10 homes Thursday, according to authorities.

San Rafael firefighters arrived to find the oak tree obstructing the entire roadway of 196 Bret Harte Road.

"The force of the heavy tree snapped one power pole and caused the breakage of power lines and the failure of an electrical transformer," Fire Chief Chris Gray said.

Firefighters, along with the Public Works employees and the Pacific Gas & Electric crew, worked to mitigate the transformer that was leaking mineral oil and repair the pole and electrical power, Gray said.

Power was restored around 8 p.m. No one was injured.
