Driver Crashes into Building Near I-580

An unknown driver crashed an Infiniti G37X sedan into a building located at 2171 E. Francisco Blvd. at about 7:30 a.m.

A driver crashed into a building in San Rafael before running away this morning, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The unknown driver crashed the Infiniti G37X sedan into a building located at 2171 E. Francisco Blvd. at about 7:30 a.m., Officer Chris Rardin said.

The Infiniti was heading west on Interstate Highway 580, just west of Main Street, when it veered right and went off the road, Marin CHP officials said.

The car continued to the right, hitting a tree before continuing to East Francisco Boulevard. At the road's northern edge, the Infiniti soared into the air, traveled across a parking lot and hit the building, Rardin said.

The Infiniti is registered to Hertz, the car rental company, and was not reported stolen at the time of the crash, Marin CHP officials said.

No one in the building was injured, Rardin said.

Witnesses saw both the driver and the passenger run away from the scene. After a search of the area, officers were unable to locate them. No descriptions have been released.

Marin CHP will be conducting an ongoing investigation. Witnesses or those with information about the crash are asked to call (415) 924-1100.
