Detectives Find Woman Lied about Purse Robbery

A woman who told police officers that she was assaulted and her purse was stolen admitted to fabricating the story, police say.

San Rafael detectives found out that a woman after two men assaulted her was lying about the incident, according to Detective Chris Duncan.

The woman claimed that the men beat her unconscious and took her purse, but detective found some inconsistencies in the case.

“The woman was confronted regarding the inconsistencies and admitted to fabricating the report about being robbed,” Duncan said.

The case will go to the district attorney’s office to review charges for filing a false police report.
