Decade-old Grudge Leads in Fight at Nickel Rose

A man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after a fight at Nickel Rose on Sunday morning.

San Rafael police arrested a Marin City man after he allegedly broke a beer bottle over another man's head in a fight at Nickel Rose Sunday, according to Detective Scott Eberle.

James Tyron Roary, 51, was booked in Marin County Jail on the felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon. His bail is set at $50,000.

The fight began around 12:45 a.m. at the bar Nickel Rose at 848 B St, when the victim, a 38-year-old man from Novato, accused Roary of assaulting the victim's family member 10 years before. Eberle could not comment on the details of the feud, but said the fight ended with Roary allegedly breaking a beer bottle over the victim's head.

Two bystanders were also injured in the the scuffle, but Eberle said they did not have to be transported to the hospital.

"a 38-year-old man [ ] accused Roary of assaulting the victim's family member 10 years before while they were at the Nickel Rose..." The Nickel Rose wasn't even open ten years ago so how could he have accused the guy of anything while they were at the bar....?

Thanks for catching that Jonathan. Clarification: When they were at Nickel Rose on Sunday morning, the victim accused Roary of being involved in a previous assault from 10 years before.
