Coleman Elementary Locked Down During Hunt for Suspected Burglars

Parents had to wait to pick up their children at the end of the school day while police finished the search.

By Bay City News Service

A search for a burglary suspect led to a lockdown of Coleman Elementary School Thursday afternoon, according to San Rafael Police.

A resident in the first block of Rafael Drive called police after she saw three suspicious men around her neighbor's house at about 3 p.m., police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher said.

When officers arrived they found one suspect on the street and arrested him. Witnesses told police there were two other suspects who ran down Watt Avenue and into the bushes near a creek.

Officers began searching the area, assisted by a Novato police dog.

Because of its proximity, police ordered a lockdown at Coleman Elementary at 800 Belle Ave.

It was towards the end of the day so parents picking up their children had to wait outside while police finished the search.

Eventually the search concluded with the two suspects still at large. The school lockdown was lifted at about 5 p.m. and students were allowed to go home.

Tyrone Demond Robinson, 21, was booked into Marin County jail on suspicion of residential burglary and conspiracy. Small electronics and a bicycle were stolen in the burglary.

It would be nice if the comments section had "Thumbs up / Thumbs down" like the PressRead More Democrat.

We have been to Pet Emergency a few times with various animals over the years, and they areRead More absolutely FANTASTIC! Top quality medical care, and a very caring and compassionate staff. I can't say that I look forward to going there (sick pets are always difficult), but I am sure glad they are here for us when we need them!
