Clerk Lies About Robbery, Steals Money Herself

A female clerk told police that two men robbed her at knifepoint and stole $1,200 from her register.

San Rafael detectives determined that a clerk from lied about a robbery and stole money from the register herself, according to police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher.

The 25-year-old that two men, one African American and one white, entered Silver Screen Video in the Montecito Plaza Shopping Center around 10 p.m. on Nov. 9 and demanded the money from her register at knifepoint.

A business owner two doors down from the video store had surveillance cameras facing the parking lot that detectives reviewed. Upon further investigation, they discovered that the clerk fabricated the story about the men and stole approximately $1,200 from the register herself.

Police were able to recover most of the money and the clerk faces charges of embezzlement and falsely reporting a crime.
