Assault with Deadly Weapon Charge in Fight

Two working men get into it on a Sunday night, first with fists, then a metal pipe. Both booked, in custody.

Sunday evening at 8:45, the received a 911 call about an altercation at 14 Front Street, in a mixed use neighborhood near .

When officers arrived they found two men involved in a physical fight, Michael E. Adams of Mill Valley, age 46, and Stephen E. Sweeney of San Rafael, 52.

According to the officers’ report, both men were under the influence of alcohol. Adams, who gave his occupation as pile driver, punched Sweeney several times in the face.  Sweeney, a flooring worker, grabbed a metal pipe and struck Adams once on the head.

Both were taken to for treatment, then to where they were booked with charges of being drunk in public.

Adams was also booked for battery, and Sweeney for assault with a deadly weapon, both felony charges.

Bail for Sweeny was set at $50,000 because of the ADW charge, while bail for Adams was $2,000 for battery. Both were still in custody as of today, and will be arraigned on felony charges tomorrow, Nov. 15.
