Alleged Transit Center Gunman Arrested in New Orleans

Ladrakeous Sonny Dean is not likely having the Mardi Gras he'd envisioned.

The 24-year-old former Marin City resident was arrested in New Orleans Monday on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the Dec. 14 shooting at the San Rafael Transit Center, San Rafael Police spokeswoman Margot Rohrbacher said.

Dean was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force without incident at a home on Gladiolus Street in the city’s Gentilly Terrace district, Rohrbacher said. The home belonged to a friend whom Dean was visiting for Mardia Gras. The friend was unaware of Dean’s fugitive status, she said.

Dean, who was already on parole from Solano County for a home invasion robbery, goes by the nicknames of “Drake” or “D” is 6’-2” and weighs 185 pounds. 

He is accused of approaching a 22-year-old male victim on Platform D at the Transit Center and shooting him at close range. He then fled in a gold sedan, police said.

The victim, who sustained serious injuries but has since been released from the hospital, ran and collapsed a short distance away.

Rohrbacker said San Rafael Police detectives had been following numerous leads and working with the California Department of Justice and the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force to locate Dean since the shooting. The task force’s objective is to seek out and arrest violent fugitives and sex offenders.

Dean is currently being held in the Orleans Parish Prison pending extradition back to California, Rohrbacher said.
