Marin Youth Applaud City's Styrofoam Ban

As San Rafael High School students and members of the Marin County Youth Commission, we would like to take this opportunity to thank the San Rafael City Council for passing the policy that would ban Styrofoam from our city.

We greatly appreciate that the city where we live, play and go to school has prioritized the maintenance of a healthy environment for its residents. This is a step in the right direction.

The properties in Styrofoam prevent it from biodegrading and being recycled. The continued use of this material pollutes our community and contributes to the growth of landfills. This is an issue that affects all people in the community, whether they know it or not. It is for these reasons that by passing this policy, the city of San Rafael has taken a very important step towards building a healthy environment for all who reside in Marin. We insist that other communities take this step as well.
