The recent shooting of a teen in Sonoma is a tradegy but it once again brings to light a lack of personal responsibility that is rampant in our society today. Many want to blame the police. Many are telling us how wonderful a person this teen was (has nothing to do with the shooting). We are hearing lots of talk and blame but nothing about personal responsibility. Don't the patents of this boy take any responsibility? They obviously did not do a good job of educating this boy about the current state of affairs in our communities regarding guns and violence or he would not have been running around outside with a look alike gun. What were his parents thinking? To hear many friends of this teen tell us that running around with 'toy' or 'replica' guns is common place here is truly amazing. Isn't this community aware of what is going on regarding gun violence? And where is the personal responsibility of this boy? Everyone wants to blame someone else and few are willing to hold the mirror up to themselves. Police sometimes make mistakes (I don't think they made a mistake here rather they were doing the job they were hired to do... protect the community). But many times people makes mistakes yet refuse to take responsibility for their actions. This boy is now dead because of bad decision HE made. The silence about taking personal responsibility is deafening from this community. Hopefully this community will take some responsibilty now to educate their children about guns and the responsibilty that goes with them owning or carrying one outside (even toy replica guns). A sad situation that we must learn from if we are to coexicst as a society.
