Meeting April 7 on Point San Pedro Road Project

A public meeting will be held Monday, April 7, to discuss the upcoming Point San Pedro Road Improvements Project in the bayfront section of eastern San Rafael and the impacts associated with its construction.

The meeting is set for 7 p.m. at the St. Luke Presbyterian Church, located at 10 Bayview Drive in San Rafael.

The County of Marin Department of Public Works (DPW) is preparing to resurface a 3.3-mile stretch of Point San Pedro Road from Union Street (near San Rafael High School) to Riviera Drive (near Peacock Gap Lagoon). MCK Services Inc. of Concord has been contracted to handle the project, which has a budget of $1,287,051.80.

The project spans both City of San Rafael and County jurisdiction and is jointly funded. Dutra Materials of San Rafael has agreed to furnish 12,000 tons of asphalt material for the project at no cost.

Construction is anticipated to start in mid-April and will go through July 2014. The project includes a new road surface, curb ramps, gutters, sidewalks and catch basins.

“We are so excited to finally get this done for the community,” said District 1 Supervisor Susan Adams, who represents residents who live along the improvement project. “This new state-of-the-art roadway will reduce traffic noise and vibrations.”

Topics to be discussed at the meeting include:

  • Results of the pre-production run and noise study
  • Construction activities and contractor schedule
  • Project features – sound-absorbing pavement, Class II bike lanes
  • Other utility work in the area
