Three Levine Measures Approved by State Assembly

Three bills by Assemblymember Marc Levine (D-San Rafael) were approved Thursday by the full Assembly.

“I am pleased that these bills were approved and sent on to the Senate,” said Levine. “This legislation is important to our communities and I am proud to work on these critical issues in the Legislature.” AB 767 funds vehicle theft prevention programs and is jointly sponsored by the California State Sheriff’s Association and the Police Chiefs Association. “These programs are remarkably successful,” said Levine. “In 2012 for every dollar collected under this program, law enforcement recovered nearly $5 in stolen assets.” AB 767 passed by a 47-25 vote.

AB 1136 requires that prescription drugs that can impair a person’s ability to drive include a warning sticker on the container indicating that risk to the patient. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration reported that 1/3rd of fatally injured drivers tested in 2009 tested positive for drugs. This bill is supported by the California Senior Legislature, the California Narcotics Officers Association and the California State Sherriff’s Association. “This legislation takes a common sense approach to a very serious problem,” said Levine. AB 1136 passed by a bipartisan 70-1 vote.

AB 1352 will allow courts to efficiently and effectively manage court records and ensure that the courts are not burdened by excessive storage costs. This bill is sponsored by the Judicial Council of California, under Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye. “This bill will substantially reduce costs for the courts. Any dollar that the courts spend needlessly storing old and unneeded records is a dollar that is unavailable for other vital court functions.” AB 1352 was approved unanimously.

Assemblymember Levine represents the 10th Assembly District which includes Marin County and southern Sonoma County.
