Levine Honored as Legislator of the Year by California State Student Association

This week the California State Student Association (CSSA) recognized Assemblymember Marc Levine (D – San Rafael) as the 2013-2014 Legislator of the Year.

“I am incredibly humbled to receive this recognition from the students of California State University,” said Levine. “It is my privilege to engage with students and seek their input on my legislation, as well as other bills before the Legislature that directly impact students.  The Legislature must consider the students in any decisions it makes about higher education.”

The CSSA is the official voice for the 437,000 full and part time students attending the CSU. The Association is comprised of elected student leaders from each of the 23 CSU campuses.  The Association advocates on behalf of students before the Legislature and the CSU Board of Trustees.

“Assemblymember Levine has authored and supported higher education policies aimed at creating greater access and opportunity within the CSU, making it clear that college students are a priority for him,” said Sarah Couch, CSU Sacramento student and CSSA President.  “We see Assemblyman Levine as someone we can truly call a ‘Champion for Students.”

“Sonoma State students are particularly excited that Assemblymember Levine was selected as CSSA's Legislator of the Year due to his consistent legislative prioritization of CSU students,” said Bernadette Butkiewicz, a student at CSU Sonoma. “We look forward to continue working with him on issues that are important to students throughout the CSU system.”
