Marin Shakespeare Setting Outdoor Stage for its 2013 Summer Shakes Festival

Marin Shakespeare Company announces its 2013 season. Revenge tragedy, a tuneful, country-western comedy and a romantic comedy make up three plays in Marin County's summer-long Shakespeare festival.

Marin's summer-long outdoor Shakespeare Festival, from July 5 to Sept. 29 in San Rafael, features first Elizabethan revenge tragedy, a tuneful country western 'comedy of errors' and a quirky, romantic comedy

This summer the Marin Shakespeare Company sets its outdoor stage with revenge, wild west wrangling and one of the Bard's wittiest comedies as they present "The Spanish Tragedy," a new country-western adaptation of "A Comedy of Errors" and "All's Well That Ends Well."

The summer season begins with previews on July 5 and continues with performances (presented in repertory) through Sept. 29, 2013.

The festival begins with a "Pay What You Will" preview Friday, July 5 of Thomas Kyd's "The Spanish Tragedy," directed by Lesley Schisgall Currier. The first Elizabethan revenge tragedy, "The Spanish Tragedy" was the rage of the Elizabethan stage, hugely popular and widely performed. This riveting tale is credited as the inspiration for Shakespeare's "Titus Andronicus" and "Hamlet." Written sometime between 1582 and 1592, Marin Shakespeare presents the West
Coast premiere – after only 430 years.
"The Spanish Tragedy" opens on Friday, July 12.

Adapted and directed by Lesley and Robert Currier, William Shakespeare's "A Comedy of Errors," gets a Texas twist in an irreverent, tuneful, side-splitting tale
about luckless cowboys caught up in a comic adventure of mistaken identity and romantic love. The "Pay What You Will" preview performance is Friday, July 19.
"A Comedy of Errors" opens on Saturday, July 27.

As the summer festival continues, Marin Shakespeare offers Shakespeare's quirky romantic comedy "All's Well That Ends Well." Helena loves Bertram, but frankly my dear, Bertram's "just not that into her." Robert Currier directs this witty comedy where everyone gets what they really want – or do they? The "Pay What You Will" preview is set for Friday, Aug. 16.
"All's Well That Ends Well" opens on Saturday, Aug. 24.

The Forest Meadows Amphitheatre opens one hour prior to show time for picnicking. Audiences are encouraged to bring picnics or purchase snacks at the Theatre Café. Warm clothing, jackets and blankets are recommended for evening performances. Parking is free.

The Marin Shakespeare Company summer long festival features a variety of special events and discounted ticket options including "Pay Your Age" for adults 20 to 37-years old and “Pay What You Will” preview performances. Single tickets are $20 to $37.50.

Performances are presented 8 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and 4 p.m. Sundays at Dominican University of California's Forest Meadows Amphitheatre, 890 Belle Avenue, Dominican University of California, San Rafael, Calif.
