Marin Music Chest Accepting Scholarship Applications

Scholarship opportunity for Marin students studying classical music. Marin Music Chest is accepting scholarship audition applications with deadlines on Feb. 9 and Feb. 23, 2013.

The Marin Music Chest is still accepting applications for its annual scholarship audition program which provides financial support to Marin County students studying classical music. 

Students studying woodwinds, brass and string instruments; piano; percussion; and voice are encouraged to apply. Scholarship applicants must be residents of Marin County for a minimum of two years and have at least two years of music study prior to the audition.

Junior Division instrumentalists must be between 10 and 13-years of age and vocalists between 14 and 16-years of age. The Junior Division application deadline is Feb. 9, 2013 and auditions will be held March 9, 2013.

Senior Division instrumentalists must be between 14 and 19-years of age and vocalists between 17 and 24-years of age. The Senior Division application deadline is Feb. 23, 2013 and auditions will be held on March 23, 2013.

Junior and Senior Applicants will perform a required piece and one piece of their choice.

All scholarship recipients will be required to perform in the Marin Music Chest Scholarship Winners’ Concert presented at San Domenico School in San Anselmo on Sunday, April 28, 2013. 

The Marin Music Chest was founded in 1933 with the mission of bringing the worlds’ greatest musical artists to Marin and to award annual music scholarships to young, talented Marin County musicians. Past scholarship award-winners include Hugo Rinaldi, founder of Marin Opera; Hai-Ye Ni, principal cello, Philadelphia Orchestra; and Joseph Alessi, principal trombone, New York Philharmonic Orchestra.
