Fundraiser Oct. 19 Supports Marin Troops in Military

Do you consider yourself a patriot? Do you walk the walk and talk the talk? You have a chance to prove your devotion Saturday at an event that supports hundreds of young Marin County men and women who have committed to service in the United States armed forces.

You are invited to the House of Steel's 4th Annual Fundraiser from 6-10 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Marin Yacht Club in San Rafael. The event features music, dancing and dinner catered by The Pleasure Is Mine. Tickets are $40 and available at the door.

The one-of-a-kind Military Recruit Program run by the House of Steel gym in San Rafael has placed 102 young people into military service in past 10 years. The program, which provides a taste of military commitment and protocols prior to boot camp, prepares the men and women physically and mentality for the reality of service to their country.

And speaking of reality, the Military Recruit Program receives no formal funding for its dedicated service to the young recruits. It depends on public contributions for uniforms, boots, shoes and other necessities. The recruits participate in many civic functions throughout the year, including organized events on Veterans Day, Memorial Day and the Fourth of July.

The House of Steel program needs your support so that it can continue to improve the lives of Marin youths with their dedication to military service. This year's fundraiser will include a silent auction and raffle prizes with all proceeds supporting the Military Recruit Program.

At the onset of the current wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, most House of Steel recruits were 9 and 10 years old. At that time, the House of Steel was sending care packages to support our troops. It now sends the care packages to the young men and women who have gone through the Military Recruit Program. To date, 32 have been in harm's way, with 19 still in on the front lines.

The House of Steel needs your help! If you cannot attend the fundraiser but want to support the program, contributions by mail are welcomed at 33 Mary St., San Rafael, CA 94901. For more information, call (415) 847 -5581.
