Learn How to Save a Life on Saturday at Northgate or Mi Pubelo

Free CPR and automated external defibrillator demonstrations are planned for Saturday at Northgate Mall and Mi Pueblo Market in San Rafael.

On Saturday, June 8, San Rafael firefighters will be joining other Marin first responders and teaching hands-only CPR and AED (automated external defibrillator) training at two locations in San Rafael.

The Marin County Emergency Medical Services Agency is sponsoring the event, which will showcase CPR demonstrations at 20 different locations throughout Marin County from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The two San Rafael locations are Mi Pueblo, at 330 Bellam Blvd., and the Northgate Mall.

In reaction to higher temperatures expected this weekend, San Rafael Fire Chief Chris Gray sent out a note that the Northgate event will be inside, in the air conditioning, and water will be available for the participants.

The Mi Pueblo event will be outside, but in the shade under a large canopy. “Cooling stations can be deployed if needed, we can also move indoors if needed and will be monitoring the situation,” Gray said.  “Water will be available to all participants.”

Survival rates of heart attack victims in San Rafael rise dramatically when bystander CPR is administered, Gray said.
