Redwood Credit Union's Shred-a-Thon

Redwood Credit Union's (RCU's) “Shred-a-Thon” features free document shredding services provided by Cintas, as well as an electronic waste (e-waste) recycling center provided by Marin Computer Resource Center. Attendees are encouraged to bring canned food donations to benefit the Marin Food Bank.

“Identity theft and fraud can happen to anyone, but there are preventative measures consumers can take to protect their personal financial information and reduce their chances of becoming victims,” said RCU President & CEO Brett Martinez. “We offer the Shred-a-Thon event to provide the community a safe and secure means to dispose of confidential documents and recycle electronic items at no charge.”

One of the easiest and most effective precautions against identity theft is to shred documents that contain sensitive data, such as old financial statements, canceled checks, credit card offers, and other outdated documents containing personal information. Attendees may bring up to 3 banker-sized boxes (15”x12”x10”) of documents for shredding. Acceptable items for eWaste recycling include computer components (CPUs, monitors, printers, ink cartridges), small office equipment (copiers and fax machines), personal electronics (cell phones, CD and DVD players, televisions) and more.
