Marin CROP Hunger Walk to be held on Sunday, March 23, 2014.

The 18th Annual Marin CROP Hunger Walk has set a goal of 150 walkers and $25,000 raised to help stop hunger and poverty here in Marin County and around the world, through self-help initiatives.  A portion of the funds raised will go to services for the needy provided by the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank, St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Marin Interfaith Street Chaplaincy.

This year twenty-five congregations and organizations in Marin County and some 1,600 cities and towns nationwide are joining together in interfaith community CROP Hunger Walks around the theme "Ending Hunger One Step at a Time."  CROP, which stands for “Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty”, are walks organized by Church World Service, a well-respected international aid and development organization and locally sponsored by the Marin Interfaith Council.

This year’s Marin CROP Hunger Walk will begin at the First Presbyterian Church of San Rafael, 1510 Fifth Avenue, San Rafael.  Registration begins at 1:30 p.m. and the walk will start at 2:00 p.m. and takes a 3 mile route around downtown San Rafael. The event is open to everyone, and donations can be made in advance online at www.cropwalkonline.org/MarinCa, or in person on the day of the walk. The Honorary Walk leader this year is Rev. Dr. James McDonald, President of the San Francisco Theological Seminary.

Sponsors of this year’s walk include Dentistry by Design of Marin, the San Francisco Theological Seminary. Anya Bandt, M.D., the Feinstein Foundation, Constantine Karsant, D.D.S., Dan and Dori Crawford, and Minuteman Press of Marin.

The Marin CROP Hunger Walk is one of eleven hunger walks occurring in the bay area this Spring. For more information about the Marin CROP Hunger Walk, contact Leslie Purdy at 415-234-6515 or Vy Nguyen at 510-848-7024, or go to www.crophungerwalkonline.org/marinca .
