King Tides! New Year's Day at China Camp

New Year’s Day Pop-up Interpretive
Station at China Camp State Park: Watch the Tide Roll In, Learn about
Sea Level Rise

Come to China Camp State Park to clear
your head and welcome the New Year while learning about science and
nature. Join wetland scientist and educator Sarah Ferner at an
informal pop-up interpretative station on top of Bullet Hill during
one of the highest high tides of the year – a King Tide. Nature
should put on a quietly beautiful show as the rising tide slowly
floods the marsh. Stop by anytime between 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM to
learn about China Camp’s tidal salt marsh, San Francisco Estuary,
and what King Tides can teach us about sea level rise in our own
community. Bring your camera to participate in the California King
Tides Initiative's citizen science photo monitoring. The tide is
expected to reach its’ highest level at 11:42 AM. The event will
proceed rain or shine because stormy weather creates an even more
exciting scene! No RSVPs necessary.

Directions: Bullet Hill is
approximately 1.5 miles west of China Camp Point and the historic
Village. Please enter the Park via Central San Rafael, as N. San
Pedro Road may flood with salt water between Back Ranch Meadows and
Turtle Back Trailhead, making it difficult to reach Bullet Hill via
car. If you reach a flooded road, please park your car in a safe
place and walk to the meeting point on the hiking trails.
