Interested in helping out in your community, building your resume, or learning a new skill? As an Earn It! Keep It! Save It! volunteer, you’ll provide free tax filing help to low- to moderate-income taxpayers to help them keep more of the money they have earned. We also need volunteers to greet taxpayers and serve as interpreters at local tax sites.
Last year, almost 4,000 Earn It! Keep It! Save It! volunteers in the Bay Area helped prepare nearly 60,000 tax returns and returned more than $63 million to our community. This tax season, we’ll have over 100 sites throughout seven counties in the Bay Area (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, Solano, San Francisco and San Mateo).
How does it work? If you sign up as a volunteer, you’ll attend a few sessions of classroom instruction (training schedule varies by county, but will begin in January for Marin) in order to become IRS Certified. Site operation hours vary by site but each volunteer can choose which site in Marin they would like to volunteer and is asked to commit to volunteer as regularly as possible throughout the tax season beginning late January through April 15th.
