Well Anthony and Devin these kids and people that are sponsoring the event (in this article) are doing something positive. Anthony, there is a silver lining in the fact you are not a parent. Any one that encourages illegal and lawless behavior is part of the problem. Another positive event is the ‘Safe Grad Night’ held every year at the Rolling Hills Club after graduation from San Marin High; people making a positive statement doing pro-active things to make a difference. And Devin you are absolutely correct, “(P) arents a lot of the times are oblivious.” That is where the problem begins. As a parent, it is your responsibility to model and show that following rules and regulations is for everyone; adults, parents, and kids. Law enforcement is also putting out extra-efforts to identify, locate, and arrest those responsible for breaking the law and preventing collisions by arrests and whatever legal resources are available. Check your news papers regarding the upcoming Winter Mobilization Campaign that starts tomorrow night and runs until the start of the New Year.

In November 2010, I wrote a story titled "Moms Who Lost Teen Sons in 2005 DUI Crash Call for a Community Conversation on Drinking and Driving." I talked to the mothers of Scottie & Bubba, to whom Christopher referred. The moms' insights were quite meaningful. Here it is: http://patch.com/A-cjrf

Brent, Thanks for the articles! This is obviously an ongoing problem, but we must not give up. The lives of our youths are at stake and we can't stop trying to find ways to make them understand the importance of making better, smarter decisions.

There's a lot more on Novato Patch about this subject. You can use the search field to check for binge drinking, teen drinking, Isaac Brott, Novato Blue Ribbon Coalition. I recommend going through the archives of the coalition's Local Voices blog, too.
