Marin Employment Connection Receives 2012 Leadership in Sustainability Award

The Marin Builders Association's Green Building Committee selected the Marin Employment Connection (MEC) as the recipient of the 2012 Leadership in Sustainability Awards.

The Marin Builders Association’s Green Building Committee selected the Marin Employment Connection (MEC) as the recipient of the 2012 Leadership in Sustainability Awards.  The awards ceremony took place at the Marin Home and Garden Expo on Sunday, June 3rd.

  • To be chosen as an award recipient, an organization must make a direct and local impact by enhancing the environmental health, social equity, and economic prosperity in Marin County.
  • One of only four award recipients countywide, Marin Employment Connection is operated by the Marin County Department of Health and Human Services in partnership with the Workforce Investment Board.

“We are honored to be recognized for our efforts to provide trainings and certification in the green economy including the creation a tool lending library,” stated Racy Ming, Program Manager II/Workforce InvestmentBoard Director, Marin County Health and Human Services Department.

The tool lending library was launched in 2011 to provide equipment free of charge to qualified Marin County professionals working on short term energy efficient projects.  Funding was provided through a grant from the California Clean Energy Workforce Training Program.

Project GREEN targets unemployed, underemployed, and incumbent workers, with an emphasis on those unemployed and underemployed residents hoping to enter the growing green economy.  This funding, coupled with a dollar-for-dollar match leveraged from public-private partnerships, promotes the use of industry sector strategies for training workers in occupations related to the green business sector in Marin, Sonoma, Napa and Solano counties.  Green business sectors include energy efficiency, water efficiency, renewable energy (distributed generation and utility-scale) and alternative and renewable transportation technologies.
