What: The Joblinks Employment Transportation Center of the Community Transportation Association of America announced that Marin County is one of seven community teams chosen nationwide to participate in its 2012-2013 Job Access Mobility Institute.  The Job Access Mobility Institute is a multi-month, team-based research, design, and implementation process.  Marin County's team will develop and pilot potential transportation services that could solve key mobility challenges.  This opportunity will bring together innovative thinkers from the transportation, employment and training, and business sectors.

Who: The Marin County Team is comprised of community leaders from the following organizations: Marin County Health and Human Services, Marin County Board of Supervisors, Transportation Authority of Marin, Marin County Transit District, Marin Economic Forum, and Homeward Bound of Marin.

Examples of potential solutions the Marin County Team will explore at the Job Access Mobility Institute include the following:

  • Local commute shuttles similar to the inter-county commuter routes but focused on Marin County employment areas.
  • Late night owl transit services for service workers.
  • Dynamic Rideshare programs (carpooling), vanpool, car-sharing and bike-sharing opportunities.
  • Possible expansion of Marin-Catch-A-Ride, which is a partially-subsidized taxi-based program for seniors scheduled to begin September 24, 2012; possible expansion of volunteer driver programs for seniors to include younger job seekers.

Marin County team members are excited to continue exploring the innovative solutions already being developed. A Community Forum is being planned for early November 2012 to solicit input from the Marin community to inform decision making.
