Colin: San Rafael Council Race a Vote of Confidence

The appointed incumbent says being sent to a full term on the council by San Rafael voters is "a great feeling and a great honor."

Kate Colin has less than a year of service of the San Rafael City Council under her belt.

But if Tuesday night’s election told her anything, it was that San Rafael voters like what they’ve seen from the city’s former Planning Commissioner.

Colin was the apparent winner out of a field of four, garnering 34.4 percent of the vote with an undetermined number of mail-in ballots and provisional votes yet to be counted.

Maribeth Bushey Lang (24.8 percent) and Greg Brockbank (23.2 percent) are locked in a race to determine the second open seat on the council that remains too close to call.

Colin was appointed in the council unanimously in January to replace Marc Levine, who was elected to the State Assembly.

“To be elected by the voters is a great feeling and a great honor,” she told Patch in a telephone interview.

“After having already been on the council (voters) have been able to see what I bring to the council and to me it’s an indication that they’re glad I’m there, and that they like the skills that I bring and the energy that I bring,” she said.

“For me it’s a huge vote of confidence and I’m very grateful to the city and to the residents because I very much enjoy being on the council so I’m really excited.”
