Two Injured in Sunday's 101 Crash

Pickup's driver lost control of trailer, truck and trailer overturned

Two people were injured when their vehicle flipped onto its roof along U.S. Highway 101 in Marinwood Sunday morning in a crash that blocked three lanes of southbound traffic for more than an hour, the California Highway Patrol said.

At about 11:30 a.m., 52-year-old Soquel resident Kevin Corrigan was approaching the Miller Creek Road exit on Highway 101 in a 2004 Ford F-350 pickup truck towing a 35-foot-long travel trailer.

As the vehicle descended a moderate grade and gained speed, the trailer began to sway side to side. Corrigan applied the brakes, but lost control of the vehicle, overturning both truck and trailer, according to the CHP.

The truck flipped over onto its roof as it came to a rest on the shoulder, and the trailer came to a stop on its side, blocking the three right lanes of southbound Highway 101.

Corrigan was able to climb out of the vehicle and flag down other motorists for assistance, but his passenger, 17-year-old Kayla Corrigan of Lombard, Ill., was trapped inside the vehicle.

Fire personnel were able to extricate the girl approximately 25 minutes after the accident, the CHP said.

Only one lane of southbound Highway 101 was operable until after crews were able to move the trailer an hour and a half later.

The driver sustained moderate injuries and the passenger suffered minor injuries, according to the CHP. Both were taken to Marin General Hospital for treatment.
