Rainy Weather Expected Entire Week

National Weather Service warns of rain and possible flooding in low lying urban areas.

Don’t put away your boots and umbrella just yet. A new round of rainy weather is expected starting as early as today and will continue for most of the week, according to the National Weather Service.

Tuesday is expected to be mostly cloudy, with a high near 57 degrees and a 20 percent chance of rain. Wind gusts could be as high as 20 miles per hour, so slow down on the roads and watch for falling braches. Rain is expected Tuesday night, with heavy winds.

Wednesday will be all rain, continuing into Thursday. The North Bay region may get a break on Friday, but even then, it will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 57 degrees, according to the NWS.

The NWS warns of possible flooding low lying urban areas.

“By the end of this week, many areas will have received their year’s worth of rain,” said Bob Benjamin, a forecaster with the National Weather Service. “It’s a fairly prolonged period of rain, but we’re not in record territory by any means.”

The weekend, too, will be a wet one, with more than a 50 percent chance of showers. Meanwhile, the storm has already wreaked havoc in the region when it whipped up a small tornado in Santa Rosa Friday that ripped a roof off a storage facility. and repair crews rushed to fix a landslide on Scenic Road in San Anselmo today. At least one person was killed in Napa when a tree fell on his car Saturday night. Fire contacts reported no serious incidents in San Rafael.

There is, however, a silver lining to all the rain. Water reservoirs are at 144 percent of the seasonal average, according to the California Department of Water Resources, and up to five inches snow is predicted in Lake Tahoe this week.
