Here's what you missed from Feb. 7 to Feb. 11.

  • Sunday at approximately 5:41 p.m. near Fairfax Street after a gun shot was fired in a crowded apartment, according to the San Rafael Police Department
  • service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 12, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ross, for Terra Linda High School teacher Debra Schmitt, 53, whose body was found Jan. 30, on the banks of a creek behind her Ross home.
  • Representatives from non-profit organizations from Marin and Sonoma County as a federal judge was due to inspect the gas chamber at the prison. A proposed new death row facility at San Quentin is expected to cost $356 million. Gov. Brown's proposed budget includes $64.7 million to kickstart the project.
  • As the Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit agency prepares for construction of a downtown San Rafael station, senior program and coordinating center Whistlestop on 930 Tamalpais Ave. will have to relocate due to lack of parking. will include a two-platform design with the southbound platform about eight feet from Tamalpais Avenue.  This leaves no space for street parking, which is essential for Whistlestop clientele.
  • to shooting into the house of a Marin County Superior Court commissioner on Dec. 10. Ryker William Schenck, 48, entered the plea in court Thursday, the day of his scheduled preliminary hearing, Deputy District Attorney Dori Ahana said.
  • A Marin County Superior Court of second-degree murder late this morning for killing his mother in her San Rafael home last year. Carlson, 31, faces 16 years to life in prison when he is sentenced April 6 for killing 72-year-old Eleanor Carlson with a Leatherman utility knife, Deputy District Attorney Tom Brown said.
  • A Marin County jail inmate in his cell on Monday hanged himself, a Novato police sergeant said this morning. Marin County sheriff's deputies found 45-year-old Deymitreeus Sessoms unresponsive in his cell just before noon and began emergency resuscitation, Marin County sheriff's Lt. Barry Heying said.
