Marin County Coroner's report determined Debra Schmitt's cause of death. Two runaways fled St. Vincent's in a stolen van. San Rafael police officers arrested a suspect in a '09 murder case.

Here's everything you might've missed this week:

  • The Marin County Coroner's toxicology report came in regarding the cause of Debra Schmitt's. The autopsy showed the cause of death was "acute alcohol and prescription drug intoxication." 
  • Residents in the Forbes neighborhood are worried that that opened last week in Culloden Park will cause traffic and parking problems.  The facility is owned by Bay Area Sober Living, an organization that runs sober living community homes for men who are in early recovery from substance abuse. Currently, the new facility in Culloden Park does not have a business license, though it is located in a residential area, and it is not subject to certain government regulations that limit the number of occupants.

  • Last Saturday over 350 Marin County volunteers showed love to the community by in various San Rafael and Terra Linda locations of the Marin County Parks and Open Space District. The event, known as 'The Gift of Love,' was started by a group of pastors from eighteen Marin based churches and Christian organizations. This year marked its third birthday. The day of service began with a worship concert at Epic Faith Church in San Rafael and ended with a barbeque at Civic Center.
  • A San Rafael man early Saturday morning on a host of charges related to burglarizing cars after he was allegedly spotted casing one in San Rafael. According to the Marin County Sheriff's Office, 26-year-old Jonathan James Black was found to be in possession of stolen property from several other cars, including some in Mill Valley.
  • Two runaways from St. Vincent’s School for Boys in Marinwood on suspicion of vehicle theft at 6:04 a.m. Sunday, according to Lt. Barry Heying. A counselor at St. Vincent’s noticed the boys missing from their beds before 6 a.m. The counselor saw a van from their facility drive away and called the Marin County Sheriff. The two boys, ages 10 and 14, are accused of breaking into the staff office and stealing the keys for the van before they left the scene.
  • at the store manager of Sears at Northgate Mall 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to the San Rafael Police Department. The gunman entered the office area of the Sears department store, pointed a gun at the manager and demanded money. The manger entered another office and retrieved an undisclosed amount of money. As the manager collected the cash, the gunman fired a shot in the direction of the manager but the shot did not harm anyone.
  • With the help of the Arizona Police Department, San Rafael detectives on Wednesday in connection with the murder of a local man in November 2009. On Nov. 30, 2009, 22-year-old Donald Espinoza-Ordonez was shot and killed outside his apartment on 100 Larkspur St. at 9:05 p.m. San Rafael Detectives Blair Auld and Scott Eberle’s investigation showed that Michael Powell Jr., a 19-year-old resident of Richmond, got into a fight earlier that day at the same location. Powell left San Rafael after the fight and returned later with 20-year-old Nickie Donald, Jr., according to the San Rafael police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher.
