Friday

  • Two suspects from the East Bay were jailed Friday on multiple charges after an attempted burglary and subsequent chase through San Rafael in cars and on foot, police said Saturday. Alfred Green, a 31-year-old El Sobrante resident, and Sandra Lorena Ibarra, a 30-year-old Richmond resident, were booked into Marin County Jail after being arrested at 3:10 p.m. Friday by San Rafael police, Sgt. Mike Vergara said.
  • San Rafael had the third largest DUI arrests in 2010 in the North Bay, after Napa and Petaluma. DUI arrests totalled 262, according to the San Rafael Police Department. Find the full list of North Bay cities and their number of arrests .

  • The strange case of Lark Ann Freeman is over.Marin County Superior Court Judge Andrew E. Sweet dismissed the case late last week against the 36-year-old Fairfield woman. Freeman had been charged with kidnapping and false imprisonment after law-enforcement officers said they stopped the U-Haul truck she was driving in the Marin Headlands on Dec. 31 and found three men locked in the back.
  • Over the past couple of months, the eerie nighttime yips and howls of coyotes have echoed regularly across the hills and valleys of Marin. Coupled with increased sightings of the crafty animals, many residents may be wondering if coyotes are taking over the county. But according to local experts, this winter show is nothing unusual; it’s just part of the coyote’s annual routine.

Monday

  • The gunman holed up inside the Corte Madera Bank of America surrendered to law enforcement after six hours. Twin Cities Police Authority Chief Todd Cusimano said the unnamed gunman is being held for a psychiatric review to determine whether he is a danger to himself or others before he is taken to jail. Cusimano said the man's name would be released if he is not held for further evaluations.
