Kitten Saved Near Highway 580-101 Merger

Andee, named for rescuer MHS Officer Andy O'Brien, is getting treatment from the Marin Humane Society.

A Marin Humane Society Animal Services officer saved a kitten weighing just one pound from Highway 101 yesterday afternoon, according to Carrie Harrington, director of communications for the group.

A passing driver called to alert the MHS of the injured animal. Around 1 p.m., Officer Andy O’Brien spotted the animal hobbling near the intersection of the Highway 580 and the Highway 101 North.

“There she was hobbling along near a storm grate, panting in the heat,” said O’Brien. “I quickly scooped her up and drove to the nearby emergency veterinary hospital with my truck air conditioning on full blast.”

The kitten was taken to the MHS for an evaluation which found her dehydrated with some minor cuts and scrapes and a fractured leg.

She was named Andee after the man that rescued her.

“Andee has a long road of rehabilitation ahead, but we are optimistic that she will make a full recovery,” said Belinda Evans, MHS director of Shelter Medicine.

Over the last 24 hours, Andee has already gained .2 pounds. She is currently being monitored by MHS Veterinary Clinic staff.
