Discussion Topic: Man Claims Hospital Left Sponge Behind During Surgery

Nearly a decade after surgery, a San Rafael man claims malpractice at the Novato Community Hospital.

A San Rafael man is alleging that a surgery nearly ten years ago at the Novato Community Hospital left him with an abnormal surprise – a sponge in his abdomin.

Ronald Alvos, 50, discovered the sponge during an abdominal imaging procedure in April before surgery on an abscess, according to the Marin Independent Journal. He is seeking damages for medical malpractice and loss of consortium with his wife.

Novato Community Hospital does not have a record of leaving objects in patients, the California Department of Public Health spokesperson, Ken August, told the Marin IJ.
