Deck Your House and Win $100,000 for San Rafael Public Schools

Get out the lights and holly. Your decorating could net $100,000 to our schools. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to win a $100,000 gift to the San Rafael public schools.

Patch.com is launching a nationwide contest to find the best dressed home in its Patch communities, and the winner’s school district will receive $100,000, no strings attached.

Here’s how the contest works. Beginning on Dec. 8 and continuing through Dec. 26, you can nominate your home by uploading a photo to the contest entry form on the site. During that same time period you and your neighbors will also be able to vote for your favorite festive home. The winning entry will be forwarded to a national Patch judge that will select 24 finalists. Each finalist will receive $500 that they can apply to their December electric bill.

From Dec. 30 through Jan. 8 you will be able to vote for the Best Decked House in all of Patch. The grand prize winner’s school district will receive a $100,000 check from Patch.

So, get out your lights and ladders (and your competitive spirit)! Whether your style is sophisticated or silly, we want you to dress up your house in the name of good cheer and our kids. At the very least, San Rafael will be decked out like it’s never been before. And if we win, what better gift could we give to San Rafael kids?

Dear Patch, I really like your website. However, this contest is rewarding excessive spending and excessive use of electricity. Show me a neighborhood where all of the houses have a single string of lights on each house and I'll show you the real winner.

This is really nice, thank you Patch for wanting to help our schools and get people in the holiday spirit. Also if school districts were smart they would get all the neighborhoods to participate for a greater chance at winning. Now that is a neighborhood I would love to see.

1. I'm hoping this is a reprint and that I just missed the original running. It says the contest began Dec. 8th, which would have given people plenty of time to decide to participate. So this is the end of the contest, correct? 2. I would have preferred that a Patch jury picked the winner. If readers pick, the locale with the biggest readership will win, not necessarily the best house, because people will vote for their own school district. Or am I missing something...

Isn't that great the city's getting in on raising the profits of the electric company and on top of that ecouraging the use of more electricity. It shows just how screwed up this world is.

Hey Mary, I've posted this article several times just to keep readers aware of the contest. The first time this article went up was Dec. 8.
