Center for Volunteer and Nonprofit Leadership Expands into Napa

SAN RAFAEL (July 2, 2014) – Center for Volunteer and Nonprofit Leadership (CVNL) announced its new partnership with the Volunteer Center of Napa Valley (VCNV), which has provided volunteer support services in Napa County for more than 40 years. Beginning July 1, 2014, VCNV will become a program of CVNL. “We are excited and looking forward to getting to know Napa County nonprofits and leaders in order to help meet their needs,” said Linda Davis, CEO at CVNL.

The goal of this partnership is to improve the integration of volunteers into Napa County’s nonprofit sector and to help build the capacity of local nonprofit agencies. Jim Tomlinson, Manager of VCNV, was tasked with securing the nonprofit’s future at the beginning of the year. “In January, we asked representatives of 30 Napa County nonprofits what they felt they needed to improve and how local volunteers might be able to help,” he said. The response was a need for training and support in marketing, strategic planning, volunteer management and recruitment, board training, and fundraising.

With support from the Gasser Foundation, VCNV began a search for resources that would address the needs of the Napa nonprofit community while increasing its organizational value.

This search led them to CVNL, a Bay Area leader in providing education, training, and consulting services to nonprofits. CVNL is the local affiliate of the Points of Light Foundation, the world’s leading volunteer organization founded by former President George H.W. Bush in 1990. “As Napa County is part of our Points of Light service area, this was a natural extension of our mission,” said Davis.

Maureen Sedonaen, CVNL Board President and CEO of Goodwill Industries SF-San Mateo-Marin, describes the partnership as a collaborative expansion. “It is about two great organizations getting together to achieve greater impact,” said Sedonaen. “Both agencies bring a lot to the table. We can’t wait to see what we accomplish together.”
