Toys 'R' Us Shopping Center to Expand, ULTA Beauty Products to Move In

The Design Review Board approved an application for a new 10,0000-square-foot buliding to be constructed across the street from TJ Maxx.

The shopping center that contains retail chains TJ Maxx and Toys 'R' Us will be getting a new building and a new cosmetics and fragrance store by this time next year.

The San Rafael Design Review Board recently approved a plan to construct a 10,000-square-foot building that would house national chain Ulta Beauty Products. The proposal will be passed to the Planning Commission and, if approved, construction will begin early next year in hopes of opening the new store by the holidays in 2013, according to the project's planner Katie Korzun.

The 27-foot-tall building would be located to the west of TJ Maxx, at 580 West Francisco Blvd. The building site would take up 37 parking spaces and two signs would be installed. Commissioners, who unanimously approved the plan on their Dec. 4 meeting, suggested some changes to make the exterior to blend with the existing buildings, alter the sidewalk access and landscaping.

"It fits and integrates well with the existing center in terms of materials, scale and design," Commissioner Mohit Garg said.

TJ Maxx recently moved in to the shopping center, filling a space left vacant by Borders in 2011. Planning commissioners said that the new building and Ulta would be a good addition to the shopping center's existing businesses.
