The Sun Valley Market, a beloved grocery that closed about two years ago, re-opened with new owners earlier this week.

Andy Bachich, who owns in the Loch Lomond area of East San Rafael, at 2202 Fifth Ave. in June 2010.

Bachich spent $500,000 on the space and invested about $2 million on the remodel, according to the Marin Independent Journal.

The market was at one time a neighborhood treasure where kids could go for ice cream when they were young or get jobs when they were older, Linda Gridley told Patch last year.

Neighbors said the Sun Valley Market had a long history in the tight-knit community and had been a popular local grocer until a new owner bought it seven years ago and stopped carrying the types of fresh products residents needed, making it more of a liquor and cigarette store.

The new store, now called Andy's Sun Valley Market, will be hosting a grand opening Labor Day weekend with a barbecue and a block party.
