Walk into History/Campfire Tales: Marin’s First People

As a part of our 40th anniversary celebration, Marin County Parks is pleased to offer an opportunity to look into our past with Marin’s premier anthropologist and archaeologist, Betty Goerke who has taught at the College of Marin for over 30 years. Her most recent book “Chief Marin: Leader, Rebel and Legend” delves into the world of the first residents of our county. Drawing upon a lifetime of meticulous research she will describe the lives of the Coast Miwok, both before and after the first European explorers and settlers arrived. Her colorful and detailed stories will transport us through time as we gaze out over the bay and get a feeling for the vast and wildlife rich marshes that once surrounded this site. We will also have a chance to learn a bit about the more recent history of this area; Supervisor Susan Adams will be on hand to reflect on nearly a decade of experience representing this district. The evening will start with a free BBQ served by ranger staff. Parking is free to participants.
