Products include clothing, shoes, toys, furniture, books, decor, designer diaper bags, slings and strollers. With a motto of “Saving the earth, one outfit at a time,” this eco-fabulous business strikes a cord with those striving to reduce material consumption and those looking for a good deal. This green business is dedicated to decreasing the amount of landfill created every year by cultivating and supporting the craft of consignment.

Who are they?

Consignment guru Stephanie Brandelius heads up the knowledgeable, friendly staff. As a lifelong resident of Marin County, Stephanie began honing her craft as a consignment buyer and seller over 18 years ago when her first child was born.

Soon thereafter, trying to afford to dress three children instead of one, Stephanie found herself not only shopping to outfit her own kids, but for others as well. She set up a part-time consignment business with a friend, and over the years helped other parents realize how the idea of reusing clothing and toys can be not only a dollar saving tip but a great way to reduce waste and live a greener lifestyle.

How long have they been there?

After their first business venture, Stephanie told her friend she would willingly head up a new shop, and sure enough, Marin Kids & Maternity Consignment has been a thriving business for over 3 years.

Why are they in our Business Spotlight?

Marin Kids & Maternity Consignment donates to Marin Head Start and are members of the San Rafael Clean Campaign. They also take part in the annual Green Halloween costume switch program, allowing customers to trade in, sell and buy Halloween costumes for children of all ages.

Stephanie calls herself, “a local-yokal.” She is a true believer in the power of the community. With programs such as show your library card and receive 50 percent off one shopping trip, or the various parenting programs offered throughout the year, this is a business that cares about their customers and the community in which they reside.

“There is room for every local business,” Stephanie said, “we can support one another and support those who keep Main Street alive.”
