Blue Moon Comics Heads to Fourth Street

Since 1998, the shop has been tucked away in the Nave Shopping Center Annex.

Blue Moon Comics has decided to move out of Novato for a new location on Fourth Street in San Rafael. Owner Sam Shiffler said the move is all about location for his Marin County customer base.

“Five years ago, I knew I had to leave — it was just a matter of timing,” Shiffler said.

As the only comic book shop left in Marin, with his next closest competitors in Rohnert Park and Santa Rosa, Shiffler wants to be centrally located in the county.

“I’m sad to leave because I live in Novato,” Shiffler said. “But we can’t get enough support down here.”

Shiffler cites a number of reasons for choosing San Rafael for his new digs, including cheaper rent, a high-traffic location and easy access.  “Our Novato location lacked walk-in traffic,” Shiffler said.

In the meantime, his customers are helping to make-ready the new site with a paint job and with moving after he asked for volunteers on Facebook.

Shiffler said that the new place at 1560B Fourth St. should be move-in ready by Jan. 30.
